COUNTERFACTUALS

There is a significant counterfactual in this game. In this game, the Arab Higher Committee—which claims to be the voice of the Arabs of Palestine—is participating in the debates. However, in reality, when the UN announced the formation of the UNSCOP, the AHC protested and boycotted the UNSCOP work (though a few eventually met privately with UNSCOP members). The AHC boycotted their work on the grounds that the Committee’s work was illegal (i.e., the U.N. did not have the legal authority to partition Palestine for the establishment of Israel) and immoral (the whole thing was a pro-Zionist colonial land grab).

Additionally, some members of the AHC (e.g., Amin al-Husseini) were not in Palestine during the UNSCOP’s work and therefore could not have participated in public debates, such as occurs in this game.
